DIN 18516-1/2024-10: Corrosivity categories for façade materials

The revised DIN 18516-1/2024-10 marks an important milestone for rear-ventilated façades. Chapter 4.3.11 defines for the first time precise requirements for the corrosivity resistance of façade materials based on the specific corrosivity of the ambient air. According to DIN EN ISO 12944, this is divided into the categories C1 (insignificant) to C5 (very strong, maritime). This provides architects and planners with a precise tool for selecting materials optimally and ensuring maximum safety and durability of their construction projects - even in challenging environments such as industrial areas or coastal regions.

Your advantages through specialised material selection:

1. Maximum material efficiency:

Precise categorisation means that materials and coatings can be selected that are ideally suited to the ambient conditions. This reduces oversizing and lowers costs.

2. Longer service life:

Sustainable protection reduces corrosion and maintenance costs - saving time and money.

3. Optimised protection:

High-performance coatings such as the FEVE 3L coating structure offer excellent resistance, even in demanding corrosivity categories (C4, 5).

4. Conformity to standards:

With standard-compliant products, architects, planners and building owners are on the safe side.
